I mentioned a project team in my previous post about Mindmapping tools. Well, I set up a pretty nice pbWiki site for us to use. We are located throughout the state and will each be collecting data, sharing it, and holding discussions. Most of the folks haven’t used one before (including the Chair) so I was nervous about whether or not it would actually be used. I souped it up with tutorials, videos, and friendly tips – all borrowed from others.
Plus, I got us started with several suggested pages including all of our contact info, project plan, workspaces for each location, discussion pages, Google calendar, etc.
Today the Chair called cause she had created a new page, inserted a spreadsheet and then lost it. I walked her through finding it and creating a link to it. It was one of those cool first moments when it all works and is so exciting!
I think people will actually use this thing – and for real work! I know many of you have already had this experience, but I’m having my own high right now!

Great to hear.
Can you create a page with the Tutorials, Videos, Tips so we can see what you used?
Great idea. I needed to create something similar for a networking group, but went the route of a social network tool (Yahoo Groups). I decided that because my users were SO new to the whole concept of online collaboration that the wiki might be too much and getting them all set up with various accounts a little troublesome to explain.
Appears you did a great job creating the same type of concept. I was wondering about the calendar piece. That was where I got stumped when I wanted to use one to share. Do all “members” need to have a google account to see the calendar information? If so then then probably also need a second for the wiki. That’s where I thought I would lose my users, but perhaps I was lost to begin with????
Thanks for the great updates and help.
Tracy
Dear Tony:
But I’m happy to. Where would I create a page? On my blog or were you hoping I had another space to do it? I guess technically I’m not sure what to do since it’s a private wiki. Maybe I should think about making a public wiki space to collect all of my Web 2.0 resources and such, but so many have gone before me and done so much work (especially Michele Martin and her nonprofit resources wikis – I’m sure you have seen those). I’ll see what I can do and let you know!
Let’s see, I doubt I could offer anything *you* haven’t seen.
Dear Tracy:
I’m my head I answered your comment already – or maybe I sent you an email. However, I have no record of having done either so here I go!
Yes, the members have to have a Google account and that part isn’t going so well… I’m just dying for a calendar solution that is PART OF a wiki. Why can’t I have that!
I don’t know why I resist Yahoo Groups so much. I think it’s the pop-up adds. I don’t even feel like I can check my Yahoo email at work because of them and all of the Yahoo junk mail. (Government controls on certain content.) And, I resist Google just because they are getting so crazy big. Why does that bother me? I don’t know really. Maybe I should get over it.
*Anyway*, the rest of the wiki is going swimmingly. I just started up another one for a different group. We will see how that one goes.
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog.
Cheers! Sandra. R.
